A sobering yet wonderful piece of wearable art. Braided hair of loved ones, departed or away on a journey, was used in Victorian jewelry as a momento of that person. After Queen Victoria's husband passed away the use of dark gemstones, especially jet, was incorporated in many pieces. This is a spectaular example of all of the above! Double sided and incredibly plaited, this 14K gold and droplet shaped jet would make a centerpiece in someones Victorian collection. Or a wearable piece of art to remind you that someone was greatly loved and you are wearing those memories. Sold as is, in great condition. The metal has been tested for 14K gold purity. It does have an age patina that can be polished off should the next owner want. There is also a bail on the back so this brooch could also function as a pendant!
