Victorian era 18K yellow gold (acid tested), banded agate earrings. The color black played a large role in late Victorian jewelry. Though mourning jewelry is much older than Victorian days, Queen Victoria's loss of her husband commercialized the dark jewelry. These earrings have oval banded agates measuring 15mm x 10mm and 7.5mm round cabochons. Banded agates were also used to create cameos. These lovely and elegant survivors of a past age no longer have that somber feel; these are a gorgeous piece of wearable history in todays fashionable colors! Great gift idea!
