Pietra dura, a technique of inlaying stone seemingly without seams has been used since the 1600's. The precision that is required is astounding! As a jeweler I have been asked to repair inlaid items and just cutting one piece of stone to fit in a particular spot is difficult. I can appreciate the workmanship involved. And without electricity! I hope this piece is continued to be lovingly kept for generations to come!
