This is a fabulous piece of jewelry history! This 14K yellow gold bracelet weighs in at 27.4 grams! It features (7) 2.25mm blue sapphires and (40) seed pearls of various sizes. The filigree ornate top of this bangle bracelet measures 21.5mm or just over 9/16" in height by 50mm or 2" from side sapphire to side sapphire, long. The back of the bracelet features a swirl design and measures 5.5mm or just shy of a quarter inch. The interior diameter measures 6 3/8". The crescent moon and shamrock motifs are favorite Victorian themes; crescent moons indicative of representing the moon goddess or femininity and the shamrocks are for good luck. The black coloring is called niello which is a metal alloy that is fused to the gold and not enameling which is glass.
The condition of this pre owned bracelet is fabulous for its age! All the seed beads are there and the sapphires are set well in their prongs. Clasp clicks shut correctly! There is minimal wear for its age on this bracelet. The previous owner says that this bracelet was purchased at the turn of the 20th century by her grandfather for her grandmother. It was passed down to her mother and then to her. Now it is time for this bracelet to find another family to call its own! In subsequent research, this bracelet could possibly be a Victorian revival piece, dating from 1930s to 1950s. Sometimes dates can be misconstrued... regardless, this bracelet deserves to be called an heirloom!
